ISLET Connect Launches in Medellin, Cebu
The ISLET Connect Project in Medellin, Cebu has officially launched! The event, entitled “Strengthening
Disaster Risk Reduction & Preparedness: Support to the Municipality of Medellin, Cebu”, was held on
November 12, 2025.
Gracing the ceremony were Hon. Edwin Salimbangon, Mayor of Medellin, Cebu; DOST 7 Regional Director,
Dr. Tristan Abando along with other DOST 7 officials; Cebu PDRRMO’s Dr. Roslyn Tambago; CVISNET
President Engr. Roberto Cabarrubias; and CVISNET Executive Director Mr. Jeffrey Llanto.
The launch brought together key officials and personnel from LGU Medellin and other representatives
from the community. Prior to the event, CVISNET team conducted site assessment, deployment, and
installation of infrastructure last week at the identified key locations such as the Medellin Municipal Hall
and Barangay Tindog.
The program also featured the turnover of portable water filters from South Korea, led by KEPEA Chairman
Mr. Song-Myung Hong; and AmoGreenTech Co., Ltd. Executive Director Mr. Byung-Kwon Yoon, together
with Dr. Chan Kim. These donations will help ensure access to safe drinking water during disasters and
emergencies.
The success of the launch was made possible through the support of our partners – APNIC Foundation,
Unconnected.org, and the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship in Asia (ISEA) – as we work together to
transform the Municipality of Medellin and other Cebu communities into Smart and Sustainable
Communities.
