
CEBU'S DRONE INDUSTRY TAKES OFF
JUIDA, in partnership with CIT-U, DOST 7, and CVISNET, will soon launch the first drone
school in Cebu!
Hosted by the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U), the Drone Industry
Stakeholders Forum held on January 23, 2025 was attended by stakeholders, including
leaders and representatives from government and private sectors.
Highlights include the presentations of Dr. Tristan Abando, Assistant Regional Director
of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 7, who presented the Philippines’
Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Industrial Development Plan. Mr. Naoki Taguchi, Senior
Manager of the Business Promotion Department of Japan UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems)
Industry Development Association (JUIDA), discussed Japan’s UAS Industrial Development
Program and the potential to export drones from Japan to the Philippines, with a strong
emphasis on utilizing drones for disaster response.
A notable guest was the Consul-General of Japan in Cebu, Mr. Hideaki Matsuo, who
delivered a keynote message emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in
advancing drone technology.
JUIDA expressed its support for CIT-U’s initiative to establish a Drone Academy in Cebu.
The university is considering integrating the drone program into its existing curricula,
including fields such as civil engineering, which plays a critical role in structural
inspections and monitoring.
