Consultation Meeting on Philippine Declaration on Internet Rights and Principles
Hosted by the Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA) in partnership with CVISNET Foundation, a consultation meeting on the Philippine Declaration on Internet Rights and Principles was held on March 13, 2024, at the DOST7 Conference Room in Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City. The meeting aimed to gather valuable feedback from participants belonging to different sectors such as academe, LGUs, and public and private sectors. The primary objective was to validate the emergent frameworks and develop draft outputs for the new draft of the Philippine Declaration on Internet Rights and Principles, which aims to update the 2015 Philippine Declaration.
The main speaker of the event, Mr. Allan Alegre, FMA Project Lead, gave the overview and discussed the main themes of the program and the current issues and challenges it is facing. The consultation meeting served as a platform for a very productive open forum discussion and exchange of ideas. With a shared vision for the Filipino Internet, the ultimate goal is to formulate a comprehensive declaration that aligns with contemporary needs and aspirations. The meeting advocated for a Filipino Internet that aligns with the common vision and reflects the current ICT landscape.
The meeting was a successful gathering of participants from different sectors. Through this consultation meeting, stakeholders were able to validate emerging frameworks that will update the 2015 Philippine Declaration on Internet Rights and Principles. The ultimate goal of this initiative is to develop a comprehensive declaration that aligns with the contemporary needs and aspirations of the Filipino people and advocates for a more inclusive and equitable Internet.
