Building Smart & Sustainable Communities Across Visayas

CVISNET Foundation, Inc. is proud to highlight the transformative partnership with APNIC Foundation, which has empowered digital infrastructure in vulnerable communities across Cebu and Leyte.

Through several key initiatives, these projects have bridged the digital divide and strengthened disaster resilience:

  • ISLET Connect (Medellin & Vulnerable Islands): This project has been a beacon of hope for remote areas like Gilutongan, Caohagan, and Pangan-an Islands, providing sustainable broadband to support education, livelihoods, and tourism. Most recently, in Medellin, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology was deployed following major earthquakes.
  • Disaster Recovery with MDRU & LACS: CVISNET has successfully deployed advanced emergency communication systems to ensure rapid recovery during major network failures. This includes the implementation of the Movable and Deployable Resource ICT Unit (MDRU) in San Remigio, Cebu, and the integration of the Locally Accessible Cloud System (LACS) in Cordova, Cebu, and at the Visayas State University (VSU) in Baybay City, Leyte. These portable, solar-powered units maintain critical connectivity for responders and residents when terrestrial networks are down.
  • Sustainable Community Growth: Beyond hardware, these projects empower locals through capacity-building trainings and the establishment of ISLET Connect Hubs. These hubs operate as community-based e-Cooperatives, ensuring long-term operational sustainability and digital inclusion.
The successful implementation of these initiatives stands as a testament to what CVISNET and the APNIC Foundation can achieve together. As we celebrate these breakthroughs in digital equity and climate resilience, we look forward to future collaborations that will continue to drive innovation and uplift more communities.
