JUIDA Drone Training Center Coming to Cebu City
On December 9, 2024, a discussion was held at the Cebu Institute of
Technology-University (CIT-U) Conference Room in Cebu City regarding the upcoming JUIDA
Drone Training Center, set to open in 2025. It was attended by Mr. John Gregory Escario,
Vice President of CIT-U; Dr. Tristan Abando, Assistant Regional Director of DOST-7; and
Mr. Jeffrey Llanto, Executive Director of CVISNET.
The Japan UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) Industry Development Association, or JUIDA, was
established in July 2014 to promote the unmanned aerial vehicle industry in Japan, which
then expanded to Advanced Mobility Systems (AMS) such as flying cars. JUIDA is expanding
its activities not only in Japan but also overseas through collaboration with various
organizations.
In October 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between CVISNET and
JUIDA. Subsequently, in May 2024, JUIDA's Senior Manager, Mr. Tetsutaro Tada, conducted
a three-day visit to Cebu City, where he held a series of exploratory meetings with key
officials from various organizations, including the DOST National Office, DOST Central
Visayas, CIT-U, the Cebu City Government, Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority
(MCIAA), and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
The drone training center at CIT-U will be the first of its kind in Cebu City. This
collaborative effort aims to establish Cebu as a premier hub for drone education not
just in the Philippines but in the ASEAN region.
