
CVISNET joins HANDA PILIPINAS Visayas Leg
CVISNET, in partnership with ATR Japan, Wisflux India, Unconnected.org, and JUIDA,
joined the Visayas leg of Handa Pilipinas: Innovations in Climate and Disaster
Resilience Nationwide Exposition from July 24 to 26, 2024 at the Waterfront Hotel, Cebu
City. With the theme “Enhancing Visayas’ Resilience through Science, Technology, and
Innovation”, the three-day event showcased innovative solutions to enhance disaster
response and management in the Philippines. CVISNET featured its key technologies -
ISLET Connect powered by Unconnected.org and the Disaster Information System for
Communities (DISC) powered by BeST. CVISNET’s partners, ATR Japan and JUIDA, also
demonstrated its technologies - ATR Japan's Locally Accessible Cloud System (LACS) and
JUIDA's advanced drone technology.
On the second day, the sessions focused on innovative technologies to enhance disaster
resilience, communication, and information sharing during critical situations. Mr.
Jeffrey Llanto, Executive Director of CVISNET, presented the Locally Accessible Cloud
System (LACS), the Front-line Operation System (FLOS) the Disaster Information System
for Communities (DISC), the Internet for Sustainable Livelihood e-Education and Tourism
(ISLET Connect) powered by Unconnected.org, and JUIDA's drone training center and future
developments in Cebu.
Dr. Toshikazu Sakano, Director of ATR Japan, gave more detailed information about FLOS,
a portable ICT system integrated with AI for disaster response, emphasizing its roles in
bridging connectivity gaps and its capabilities in automating disaster information
handling. Mr. Chandraprakash Sharma, CEO and Founder of Wisflux India, discussed the
commercialization and deployment of LACS, FLOS, and Cloud DRIMs. Lastly, Mr. Kakuya
Iwata, Managing Director of JUIDA, shared insights on drone applications during the
January 1, 2024 Noto earthquake. The event highlighted the transformative impact of
these technologies on disaster management, demonstrating their potential to strengthen
the Visayas region's disaster resilience.
The Handa Pilipinas three-day event allowed the attendees and guests to explore
cutting-edge solutions for future implementation and potential collaborative
opportunities.
