1st Asia Pacific Information Superhighway Steering Committee
Over 100 international and regional ICT experts attended the first session of the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway (AP-IS) Steering Committee held last November 1 - 2, 2017 at Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The event is a collaboration by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Government of Bangladesh to enhance regional broadband connectivity as articulated in the Regional Road Map for Implementing Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development in Asia-Pacific.
The event addressed the broadband deficits among ESCAP member countries. It aims to enhance affordability, availability, reliability and resilience of the broadband infrastructure across the regions. The AP-IS Steering Committee meeting marked the first major step to operationalize the governance structure, develop regional and subregional implementation plans, identify challenges and opportunities and develop partnerships with international and regional organizations.

CVISNET Conducts Nepal MDRU Field Testing and Technical Training
Last July 10-12, 2018, CVISNET visited Kathmandu of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to conduct the Nepal MDRU Field Testing, Community Preparation and Technical Training. The visit was in cooperation the Education Nepal Foundation (EN) of Nepal and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation of Japan (NTT).
During the 2015 Nepal earthquake, it left almost 9,000 people killed and tens of thousands injured. Although after two years, Nepal has greatly reconstructed and restored several vital services. Another disaster could bring down again these infrastructure, they realized immediate restoration is very important to allow vital relief and rescue services in place.
The cooperation of ED, NTT and CVISNET brought the best available technology to enable immediate restoration of vital communication and computer services to possible affected areas in Nepal. NTT provided the MDRU technology and hardware; and CVISNET shared MDRU technical training and the Philippine experience especially in the preparation of resilient communities.
EN also provided materials to show the use of the system in delivering day to day information, such as educational materials from a database to field users operating a smart phone connected to the MDRU.
ICT Disaster Response Conference 2017
To raise awareness in reducing the effects of disasters through a showcase of different ICT solutions that serves to improve communications, resilience and disaster response, we are pleased to announce the very FIRST Information and Communication Technology Disaster Response Conference (ICT DRC) in Cebu City.
The event will be on September 20 to 21, 2017 at The Waterfront Cebu City Hotel. Our participants will come from the government, academe, private companies and non-government organizations.

8th Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum
CVISNET Executive Director Jeffrey Llanto represented the foundation during the 8th Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum held Bangkok, Thailand, from 26 to 29 July 2017 at Chulalongkorn Unviersity.
The Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF) is a multi-stakeholder platform for public policy on internet and its impact on society. For almost a decade, the forum draws in discussions and incubates collaborations for the developments of universally affordable, accessible, non-discriminated, secure and sustainable internet across the region.
Dir. Llanto introduced the foundations's project on resilient communications technology, the Movable and Deployable ICT Resource Unit (MDRU) with the Municipality of San Remigio, Cebu. This was presented during the forum by LIRNEasia, Reconnecting the Disconnected in Disasters.
